After spending days in the lead up to preparing for the storm…now the question begins….
WHAT DO YOU DO AFTER THE FACT?
Returning to homes will take days…..and then residents will be on the ground to assess damage. Our immediate reaction will be to start hauling out damaged material, and then making assessments about the scope of damage.
One thing we will all experience is shortage of labor….finding workers you can depend on to do any work…much less qualified work….will be increasingly difficult. A significant portion of the skilled labor pool got in their trucks….and along with their tools, left to go back to Texas.
Typically, after a storm, those skilled workers all congregate in the storm location….our problem here is we have it on so many fronts…that those workers will be dissipated.
The labor shortages we’ve already experienced because of all the boneheaded immigration nonsense…will only get worse….much, much worse.
Finding dependable crews is going to be such a challenge….so your key is to get them on the job quickly….and then keep them paid properly to keep them working.
My strategy is to NOT make crew or contracting demands quickly….let the surge take over…and THEN go back and get work done months or years after the fact.
You hustle to find appropriately licensed, insured and trustworthy workers…and then you work hard to treat them right…and get them on the job!
