Today, more than ever, we all need to focus very intensely on the tremendous evil and inequality that exists in this country today and the desecration of our most basic rights.
We may have made some progress after Martin Luther King’s death, but this country is fast slipping backwards.
Later this week, I will begin serving part of my sentence for the crime of speaking out, for the crime of exercising my First Amendment Rights, for the crime of standing up for consumers and for the Rule of Law.
When I agreed to serve this sentence, I did not realize that it would begin in this Martin Luther King’s Week.
Today’s Civil Rights struggle transcends race, color and creed. Today, our government and the corporations that own all facets of it, see no color or class when they send the crushing boot down on the necks of all of us.
Martin Luther King wrote his famous Letters From A Birmingham Jail while he served his sentence. As I serve my sentence, I will focus on how I can be a better and more faithful servant to the aspirational goals that we must all be steadfastly dedicated to.
I urge you to first watch Luther’s final speech. Consider how he foretold his own death in this powerful and moving speech. He knew on a level that we could not appreciate that he would be martyred….and in his martyrdom, he left a legacy that transcends death.
After you watch the first video, follow the progression and watch the next video which superimposes protest images from today onto Luther’s words of yesteryear.
Finally, if you have the courage. If you have the moral fortitude, if you have the strength, watch the final video…
