Rebuilding America's Defenses- The Neo Con Rant That Killed Millions…America's New Constitution?

Let me first assert that I am a passionate defender of the men and women who serve the United States of America in uniform. Those of us on the civilian side owe to all of them a debt of gratitude we can never repay.   Part of that responsibility must be to take care of our soldiers who are here stateside….and to consider why our nation’s leadership has sent them into constant battle in deserts and desolate lands for nearly all of the last two decades.
I remember the talk years ago about our military in decline. I remember they scared us into believing that we were not safe because our military spending had in fact decreased.   I don’t remember them considering the security or moral implications of turning our nation’s defensive military forces into offensive forces that would be the aggressors.   Well, now we are.   We’ve got a fine and well provisioned military…how’s that working out for the private or the lance corporal who put all that fire power to work?
The report attached here documents how a powerful consortium of private parties joined together to lobby and plead for an unprecedented peacetime expansion of a nation’s military forces.   The group, Project for A New American Century (PNAC), represented a powerful group of warmongers….but there was one thing missing.   Most had never served in any branch of the United States Military.   That didn’t stop these corporate statists from deciding that they knew what our nation’s military was good for….and, according to their view of military and foreign policy, sending our men in women in uniform off to fight the wars they envisioned was a proper use of the blood and bodies of America’s children.   Here’s how they viewed the world:

As the 20th century draws to a close, the United States stands as the world’s pre-eminent power. Having led the West to victory in the Cold War, America faces an opportunity and a challenge: Does the United States have the vision to build upon the achievements of past decades? Does the United States have the resolve to shape a new century favorable to American principles and interests?

Now that’s obviously a loaded question.   This group decided we needed a revamped war machine…and they and the corporations they served…directly…were going to profit. Their battlefield was boardrooms and country clubs, the only risks they faced were declines in their own stock and bank accounts.   Here’s what these neo-con warriors decided we needed:

• we need to increase defense spending significantly if we are to carry out our global responsibilities today and modernize our armed forces for the future;
• we need to strengthen our ties to democratic allies and to challenge regimes hostile to our interests and values;
• we need to promote the cause of political and economic freedom abroad; [and]
• we need to accept responsibility for America’s unique role in preserving and extending an international order friendly to our security, our prosperity, and our principles.

We should all wonder today what the world would look like if, instead of making war, our nation had devoted such attention to addressing all the world-ending problems we are now faced with.   What if PNAC had decided we needed the world’s most impenetrable defense forces first then we would work to dominate the world through diplomacy, science, economic development?   What if, instead of promoting world dominance through plunder and force, we projected our engineering or health care or agri business might?   Yeah right, that would never work.
Those villages in Afghanistan would never learn about America’s global responsibilities, our interests and values, our commitment to political and economic freedom our prosperity and principles with new hospitals, schools and economic development…instead, we teach all that with indiscriminate and brutally lethal force.   Sulfur bombs and fire raining down from above.   Millions of people dead. Those they left behind surely love all of us….don’t they?
The neo cons beat the drums of war….and we got war. With Iraq.   Why were we there again?   What’s left there? How did all that military planning work out on the ground when the civilian armies and non-military defense contractors from the State Department and the CIA and NSA executed the plays down on the ground. Oh right, it was disastrous. Disastrous military policy, disastrous foreign policy, disastrous social policy, disastrous economic policy.
But fabricated enemies and contrived   conflict was not nearly enough to transform…we needed something more….something like….Pearl Harbor.   According to the report:

“Further, the process of transformation, even if it brings revolutionary change, is likely to be a long one, absent some catastrophic and catalyzing event”“”“like a new Pearl Harbor”

They got their Pearl Harbor….on September 11, 2011.   Do all of their explanations for that day make sense to you?
