I have been criticized for using the specter of Nazi persecution and totalitarian persecution to describe what is sweeping across this country….I’ve been quoting the poem:
First they came for the communists,
and I didn’t speak out because I wasn’t a communist. Then they came for the trade unionists,
and I didn’t speak out because I wasn’t a trade unionist. Then they came for the Jews,
and I didn’t speak out because I wasn’t a Jew.Then they came for me
and there was no one left to speak out for me.And some found could not grasp the application of those words to where we are today. Early on I watched as banks became more emboldened and arrogant, kicking down doors, seizing property, “preserving” or “winterizing” property without the power of any valid court order while law enforcement and courts just looked the other way.
Back then my words and my warnings sounded too extreme or rhetorical or overstated.
But just look where we are today….and don’t look in the mainstream press because they will not tell you the full story or the truth.
Then today I came across a most powerful interview, this from the 84 year old woman who was pepper sprayed as she watched the protests unfolding.
