From The Sarasota Tribune:
This entire state’s court system (and frankly all of government) has been hijaked by out of control and lawless banks and corporations.
They are gutting the middle and working class of this state, who are struggling more than ever. And they are doing it not just with permission, but with the express cooperation of our state’s court system. Many foreclosures involve cheating in one way or another.
But no one will do anything about it.
Consumers and taxpayers continue to be cheated, the corporations and banks run wild, but no one will do anything about it.
Why is this? Why do citizens and government officials and law enforcement officials just sit on the sidelines while all the public assets are looted, robbed stolen?
Why?
Why won’t someone do anything about it? From the Sarasota Tribune:
SARASOTA COUNTY – A local real estate agent’s purchase of vacant land on Lido Key for luxury condominiums skirted thousands of dollars in required real estate taxes, according to a review of public records.
Seaward Development LLC’s purchase of a 1.12-acre parcel at 129 Taft Drive earlier this month marks the latest in a series of high-end real estate transactions that appear to have shortchanged the documentary stamp taxes that help fund court systems in Florida.
The company acquired the land from a subsidiary of failed investment house Lehman Bros. for $2.2 million, according to a press release from the marketing firm that represented the selling agent.
But the purchase price was listed at just $100 with the Sarasota County Clerk of the Circuit Court — paying just 70 cents in doc stamp taxes instead of the $15,435 that the sale should have generated, court records show.
Local officials say they are powerless to change the current system.
“What the deed says is how the doc stamps are collected,” Clerk of Court Karen Rushing said Monday. “We can’t challenge the document that’s been filed, although the Florida Department of Revenue could.”
